The Civil War Music Collection - The War Begins

One of the ways that individuals express themselves is through artwork including the use of music. As such, the study of society through the lens of music gives vaulable insight into the past. The use of music was widespread during the turbulent days of the American Civil War. In virtually every army camp could be heard both instrumental and vocal renditions of popular period songs. Music also played a prominent role on the battlefield to direct troops or to boost morale. This collection contains musical compositions for both the Union and Confederacy and focuses exclusively on those compositions published during the first year of the conflict.
