The J. Frank White Academy (JFWA) is a private, coeducational, college preparatory day school located on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University and serves students grades K-12. Students benefit from a unique combination of small class sizes, a safe environment, caring faculty and staff, and access to LMU facilities.
JFWA joins in the LMU mission of providing educational opportunities to the people of our Appalachian community. We have created a special learning environment with a remarkable faculty and student body. We promote the virtues of hard work, resilience, grit and a dedication to service to humanity. The reasons to enroll include the academic atmosphere, safety, excellent facilities, nurturing atmosphere, individual attention, parent involvement and more. The common goal of all Academy familes, faculty and staff is to give each student the best chance of succeeding at the next level and beyond.
JFWA is located at the center of LMU in the Campus Quadrangle in historic Farr-Chinnock Hall, renovated to include advanced learning technology for students. The beautiful expansive grounds and impressive academic buildings at LMU offer an inspiring backdrop for students all ages, while the size of the school accentuates a feeling of family and community. The lower school, grades K-3, is housed in the newly renovated Kresge Hall at the north entrance of the LMU campus.
JFWA is fully accredited by AdvancED, a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site reviews of educational institutions and systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential. The Academy received an exceptional report from AdvancED which reviewed the school for accreditation renewal in 2017. JFWA has maintained accreditation since its establishment in 1989.
Tuition at JFWA includes lunches in the University dining hall, personal tablet leasing and up to 30 credit hours of college coursework for junior and senior level students who meet requirements. Tuition rates are tiered by grade level and monthly payment plans are available. Transportation to some locations is available for an additional fee.
(Part-time programs with tuition calculated per course credit are also available.)
Along with the excellent curriculum, JFWA offers a full range of athletic programs (basketball, baseball, tennis, soccer, cheerleading, golf, cross country and track) and extracurricular organizations and opportunities for educational travel experiences nearby and around the world.
The academic offerings include a mix of traditional high school coursework and Advanced Placement (AP) classes all taught by exceptional faculty who are all fully certified and possess advanced degrees. Upperclass students may choose to enroll in LMU courses and learn alongside college students for an optimal experience to prepare for continuing their education beyond high school. The elementary and middle school curriculum is designed to prepare students for educational opportunities in the future and strives to achieve balance between the rigorous demands a college preparatory school and the needs of children to celebrate the wonders of childhood. The Academy curriculum gives students flexibility to explore a variety of academic interests. Through an innovative approach to learning, JFWA also offers several designated online days throughout the year. Online days enable students to continue lessons at home, via the internet, when school is closed for inclement weather, illness or faculty work days.
JFWA boasts 100% college placement since its first graduating class. Standardized test scores from our students are consistently well above the state and national average.
The Class of 2019 continued JFWA’s tradition of 100% college placement, as all 17 graduates planned to attend college in fall 2019. The class collectively earned over $1 million in four-year scholarships and boasted a 26.3 ACT class average. Every member of the Class of 2019 qualified for the Tennessee HOPE Scholarship.
